Whip It Wednesday

STOP RELIGIOUSLY RIDING CLIPS!

.

Happy Wednesday all!

I have been a professional mtb coach for 13 years, full time, not on the side. I have helped thousands of riders gain skill and confidence. I have helped new riders learn to ride and advanced riders gain new skills. I am a programing director and know how to scale bicycle programming. I train other coaches on how to be a mtb coach.

.

The only reason I open up today with bragging is to get you to understand how many mtb riders I have helped gain skills over the last decade.

.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAND?

.

Quite easily, the riders who progress the slowest are the clippless riders who never EVER ride on platforms. Even if there is a fire! The only riders who tend to fall over in my class are the ones clipped in. The riders who are scared to commit to trackstands are my clipless students. Riders who can't build jumping skills as fast as they want to are clipped in and yanking up on their shoes, causing the rear wheel to lift too soon for extremely bad posture and hardly ever clearing a jump.

.

WAIT! Before you scroll, let me explain!

.

Clip pedals and shoes are great! I support clipless riding! But let me teach you how to get more performance out of those death trap shoes.

.

By unclipping once a week (twice a week if you really want to get better), you will learn foot control by doing driveway drills, like wheel lifts, bunnyhops, cornering, ect. Once you get better foot control, clip back in and see the enhanced difference in your clipless experience.

.

Are you a rider who can't do a simple back wheel lift on flat ground with platform pedals?

Are you a rider who’s feet come off the pedals if you are in the air?

Can’t move your knees much in cornering drills?

Hips locked in place over the saddle?

.

Then do yourself a solid and create some training space for you on platform pedals. Try something like “flat pedal Fridays” or “tech Tuesdays”.

.

Do yourself another solid and invest in shin guards… They are cheaper than stitches, and allow you to continue practicing.

.

Do these driveway drills on platform pedals twice a week.

.

Join my 4 week bunnyhops challenge designed to enhance these skills at home for 4 weeks of solid progression. You have access to me 24hrs a day through the challenge.
